Akbar created a separate department called Khushbu-Khanah (Department of Perfumery). Shah Mansur was put in charge of it.

Some of the choicest recipes were as follows:

(1) Santuk was used for keeping the skin fresh. It was prepared from zabad (civet), chuwa, chambeli essence and rose-water.

(2) Argaja was used in summer for keeping the skin cool. It was prepared from chandan (sandalwood), iksir, mid chuwa, banafsha (violet-root), gehla, kapur (camphor) and 'arq of rose (rose-water; gulab-jal).
